Choose how you use it

Sniptra is included in ArcRelay's Windows and macOS 12.3+ desktop integrations, but enhanced screenshots must be enabled in screenshot settings. The bundled mode starts on demand and does not require a separate tray app.

Standalone distribution is still planned. If you run a standalone build from source, follow that build's entry points and platform support; this page does not offer an unreleased installer. The two modes keep separate configuration profiles.

Make your first capture

1. In bundled mode, start from ArcRelay's capture entry point. In standalone mode, use the Sniptra tray, configured shortcut or command-line entry point.
2. Grant screen-capture permission when required. On macOS, changed permissions may require restarting the relevant app; Wayland capture involves the desktop Portal.
3. Drag to select a region, or use the window or desktop capture modes supported on your platform.
4. Review the selection and add the annotations you need in the editor.
5. Copy or save, then confirm the result in the destination app or folder.

Press Escape to cancel an unwanted capture. Try ordinary content first so you know how selection and exit work before handling sensitive screens.

Add and revise annotations

Use rectangles, ellipses, arrows, lines, text or pen tools to explain the image. While editing, annotations remain selectable objects that can be moved, resized, restyled and reordered rather than being permanently baked into the background after every action.

• Select an existing object before adjusting it.
• Undo or redo changes; check the editor's shortcut help for common commands.
• Cover or blur sensitive text, then zoom in before export to confirm that the original is genuinely unreadable.
• PNG, JPEG and WebP exports are delivery images, not project files preserving every editable object.

Use local OCR

1. Capture text and select the region you want recognized.
2. Run the OCR tool and wait for local recognition to complete.
3. Review the result, especially numbers, paths, code and mixed languages, before copying it into another app.

Recognition runs locally without uploading the capture to a cloud OCR service. If first-run setup or the local worker fails, check the build's runtime environment. Recognition is not guaranteed to be perfectly accurate.

Copy, save and pin

Sniptra itself does not keep screenshot history, but files you save and failure-recovery assets may remain. Once an image reaches the system clipboard, ArcRelay may retain or relay it according to its own settings. Review those switches first.

Scrolling capture on macOS

Scrolling capture is currently macOS-only; do not assume equivalent support on other platforms.

1. Select the scrollable region and start scrolling capture before adding annotations.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions, keep the target stable and watch the stitched result as content scrolls.
3. Automatic scrolling may require Accessibility permission. Sandboxed environments have limitations, so it is not available in every distribution context.
4. Finish at the desired point, inspect overlaps, missing lines and fixed overlays, then annotate or export.

If stitching is incorrect, try a smaller region or smaller scroll increments. Avoid moving the window or changing its layout during capture.

Shortcuts and exit

Use Command/Ctrl + / in the editor to open shortcut help, and follow the bindings displayed by your build. Copy, save, undo and redo use the editor's corresponding commands. Check global capture bindings in settings; Wayland support depends on the desktop environment.

Escape cancels or exits the current capture. After closing the editor, verify the copied or saved result: a closed window does not itself prove that a file was saved.
